Katja Harmuth has been short-sighted since childhood. In second grade she already had problems recognising the letters on the blackboard. Instead of wearing glasses, Katja preferred to sit in the front row. “I was very vain when I was a young child and did not want to have to wear glasses under any circumstances.”

At the age of 19, however, her myopia was so strong, she couldn’t ignore it anymore. Katja found herself forced to compromise and chose contact lenses to correct her short sight. This solution worked well – until she celebrated her 40th birthday. Due to her age, she had developed presbyopia, meaning that small print became increasingly hard to read and she became dependent on reading glasses.

When presbyopia affects your daily work

Particularly in her profession as a make-up artist, Katja needs perfect sight for detailed work, which requires a lot of precision.
